Erica and Chidi: A Journey of Love and Faithfulness

In the heart of Biafra land, amidst the vibrant greenery of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu Campus, our paths converged. It was the early 1990s, and I was a young architecture student, navigating the corridors of academia. You, Erica, were my junior, a well behaved and vibrant chic. our brief encounters in the hallowed studios of UNEC left an indelible tiny but unexplainable mark on my soul.

Life, however, had other plans. The loss of my dear mother weighed heavily on my heart, as I would try to find my feet for several years. I sought solace in the bustling capital city of Abuja. There, fate intervened once more. In 2003, at the construction site of the Family Worship Center Abuja church, our eyes met again. You, with your unwavering determination, and I, with dreams of a better life, found ourselves drawn to each other like two stars in a cosmic dance.

Our love story unfolded against the backdrop of sacrifice and commitment. In 2004, we stood before family and friends, our pockets empty but our hearts overflowing. Our traditional marriage and wedding was simple, yet profound—a testament to love’s resilience. For four years, we labored side by side, volunteering at the church site, building not just walls but the foundation of a lifetime together.

Yet, the whispers of society echoed harshly. “Barren,” they called me, as if my worth lay solely in my ability to bear children. But we held fast to our faith, believing that our love was enough, that our union was blessed beyond the confines of biology.

In 2007, we embarked on a new chapter, crossing oceans to Canada. The land welcomed us with open arms, and we carved out a life—a life that would soon be graced by the pitter-patter of little feet. In 2010, after a fibroid surgery, our son Kene arrived, wiping our tears and filling our home with laughter and wonder. And in 2012, our daughter Ijeoma completed our family, her eyes reflecting the same resilience that had carried us through the years.

We faced trials—the flames of adversity licking at our existence. We started building a new house, but Our old house, a repository of memories, succumbed to a fire accident. Yet, from the ashes, we rose. We built anew, not just a physical structure but a sanctuary of hope. And now, as the calendar pages turn, we stand on the precipice of our 20th anniversary.

On the 3rd of August 2024, at the Pinecrest Event Centre, we will gather—friends, family, and kindred spirits—to celebrate God’s faithfulness, strictly by invitation. Our love story, etched in the annals of time, will be adorned with joy, laughter, and gratitude. For every twist, every turn, every tear shed and every smile shared, we will raise our glasses high.

Erica, my dear comrade in this grand adventure, you are my compass, my confidante, and my home. Together, we’ve weathered storms and danced under star-studded skies. Our love, like a well-aged wine, has only grown richer with time. So, let the drums roll, let the music play, let the candles flicker, and let our hearts overflow.

Here’s to us—two souls entwined, writing our love story across continents and decades. Happy 20th anniversary, my beloved Erica. May our journey continue, hand in hand, as we waltz through the tapestry of life.
